Friendship...

LANGUAGE ARTS

The students worked on writing four stanzas for their "Friends" poem using their ideas and graphic organizers from last week. After writing their sloppy copy, they edited their work and typed them on the chrome book for publishing.

We were excited to receive a special package from our penpals in Vancouver! The students spent an afternoon reading their letters and sharing them with their classmates. Then they started working on a reply and will finish them next week so we can mail them.

We have been trying to practice our cursive writing by learning a letter a week. The students are building confidence and working really hard on their formation.

We also to try to fit in a daily read aloud. The students are all working on reading with fluency and using expression when they see quotation marks, exclamation marks or question marks.

MATH

We spent the entire week practicing two digit subtraction with regrouping. They stacked questions on paper, on the whiteboard so their peers could check it over and they played a card game with friends. If you pull out a deck of cards at home, the students can show you their awesome regrouping skills with a few rounds.

SOCIAL

The students continued working in pairs on their Tunisia slideshow. They have been doing a great job pulling out important facts from the textbook and putting these into complete sentences. This week they learned about celebrations, services and leaders in Tunisia.

ART

After watching a video called "Tarek the Camel Racer" the students completed a directed drawing of a camel. They added details and then coloured their project. They completed their masterpiece by making a mosaic frame with pieces of construction paper.
