Christmas Elves...

The student showed up in their most beautiful attire for the Christmas Concert. They sang their hearts out and did a fabulous job!!!

The students spent time this week, going through expiry dates, sorting and packing food before heading to the Christmas Elves depot to deliver the donations. They had a great time and came away with a warm feeling from this giving project.

LANGUAGE ARTS

This week, the students wrote letters to Santa which will be mailed to the North Pole next week. They told Santa a bit about their family, what they have done to be a good girl or boy this year and what they are hoping to get for Christmas this year. They also asked Santa a few questions in hopes to get a letter in return.

We also made cards for the senior citizens at Discovery Place and sent post cards to the Armed Forces.

The students were excited with the arrival of Sam, our classroom Elf on the Shelf. Every morning, we have been writing a journal entry about what the elf is doing. He even brought us a few treats, including the short movie "An Elf's Story.

MATH

We continued working on adding 10 or 100 and subtracting 10 or 100 from three digit numbers. The students were also introduced to regrouping ones to tens.

SOCIAL

The students continued reading about India and filling out their travel journals. We also watched a few videos about some popular festivals and sports in India.

Season for Giving...

This week, the students at RBES brought in donations for the Devon Christmas Elves. Every donation was counted for a ticket into the Comfy Couch Contest and the winners were announced on Thursday at the end of the school day. The Devon Christmas Elves is always so grateful for the amount of donations they receive from our school. Next week, the Grade 3 students will be delivering and sorting the food at the Christmas Elves depot. Please remember to sign the permission forms online.

LANGUAGE ARTS

The students wrote letters back to their pen pals this week. The wrote about themselves, answered questions and then asked their pen pals questions in return. After editing their sloppy copies, they wrote a good copy to be mailed away. They also worked on an illustration for their new friend to include with their letter.

Each week, when we have spelling, the students work on a variety of activities to help them practice words with the same spelling rule.

They are really getting to be experts at editing the weekly morning message with hopes that they can use this knowledge to edit their own work.

MATH

In Math this week, the students plotted two and three digit numbers on number lines and then ordered them from least to greatest and greatest to least.  They also worked on comparing numbers that were 10 more, 10 less, 100 more and 100 less.

SOCIAL

With a partner, the students continued some research about India using the chromebooks. We also started reading the textbook, following a young boy named Ravi and learning about his life in India. After reading each section, the students have been working on filling in a travel journal by pulling out key information they learned about the culture.

ART

We completed the Rudolph art for the Christmas concert. They were all very proud of how their project turned out.
