March Madness Tournament of Books

LANGUAGE ARTS

The students are super pumped about our March Madness Tournament of Books. This week, we were lucky to have two Mystery Readers to share their favourite stories. The books are voted on and the winners move onto the next bracket of the tournament. At the end of the month, we will have two finalists and the students will be completing a persuasive writing project about their favourite book!

Over the next two weeks, we will be spending some time reviewing the Spell-a-thon words. This week, the students wrote a "pre-test" so they know which words they should be focusing on.

We fit in a lot of reading throughout the day. The students love reading aloud to the class from the Collections series and look forward to their reading groups.

MATH

In Math, we worked on solving addition and subtraction word problems. The students were taught to highlight or circle important numbers and words within the question to help them figure out which operation to use.

SOCIAL

Our district's Technology Integration Facilitator, Mr. Darren Maltais, came in to explore Tunisia using Google Earth. It was an amazing presentation and made us feel like we had actually taken a trip there. As the students explored the country, they wrote down notes and then organized their facts into a postcard format, pretending they were writing home while they were on vacation.

The students also presented their Google Slides about Tunisia.

We had a special guest join our class this week. We learned all about Trixie and her agility classes!
